Updated over 6 months ago

Welcome to our tutorial on removing brackets from a dental mesh scan, a crucial step for dental technicians to ensure accurate models and precise dental appliances like crowns or aligners. Let's get started!

Steps to Remove Brackets

1. Select the Face Selector Tool

  • From the toolbar, select the Face Selector tool.

  • Change the selection mode from loop screen to polygon model.

2. Outline the Area to Remove

  • Click the points around the brackets to outline the area you want to remove.

  • Once you've finished selecting the area, press Enter or click the first point with the left mouse button to complete the selection.

3. Delete the Selected Area

  • With the desired area selected, press the Delete Selection button or use the Delete button shortcut to remove the brackets.

4. Fill the Resulting Hole

  • Use the Fill Holes tool in the Mesh tab.

  • Ensure the smooth curvature mode is activated and use the minimum area metric prioritization for hole filling.

  • Activate the tool, point to the hole, and click on it when it turns red.

5. Refine the Filled Area

  • To make the filled hole look more natural, first expand your selection a bit.

  • Use the Reposition tool with Varying Density mode to reposition the vertices.

  • If further refinement is needed, use the Brush tool to smooth the area. This tool allows you to add or remove material and smooth specific areas.

6. Smooth and Finalize

  • Gently touch the areas you want with Brush tool to smooth and remove material as needed to finalize the tooth.

  • You can fill holes and smooth them in bulk after removing all the brackets. Use the Fill Holes tool, but omit the bottom hole by clicking on it while holding the Ctrl button. Then press Apply and repeat the process for the other holes.

FAQ

1. Why is it important to remove brackets from a dental mesh scan?

Removing brackets is essential to create accurate models for dental appliances such as crowns or aligners.

2. Can I use these tools to refine other parts of the dental model?

Yes, the Brush and Reposition tools can be used to refine and smooth other areas of the dental model.

3. What should I do if the filled hole doesn't look natural?

Use the Reposition tool with Varying Density mode and the Brush tool to adjust the vertices and smooth the area until it looks natural.

4. How do I handle multiple holes after removing brackets?

Fill and smooth the holes in bulk using the Fill Holes tool. Omit specific holes if necessary by clicking on them while holding the Ctrl button.

And that's it! We've successfully removed the brackets from our dental mesh scan, ensuring a clean and accurate model. If you have any questions, feel free to explore our Help section or reach out to our support team at support@meshinspector.com.
